Some bake house pizza fresh and hot from the 1987 Blodgett 3 deck oven (it still cranks) and these wiffle ball players were ready to go.
Betsy and Jim enjoying the offerings.
Just reading Jim's mind here....."Next time I'm taking her downtown".
Mikey must have whiffed on a change up or something because Alicia is laughing about something. Note the cool Buddy 150 in the back ground. Oh, nothing.
Kathy....takes her turn on the mound during warm ups.
Author, scientist, and right handed batter Jill gets ready to pounce on one of Oscar's 'nasty' sliders.
The 'Dishman' raises his hands in excitement with the completion of the out. An accomplished drummer and hard core Tiger fan Rich definitely knows how to 'dishit'.
We got lucky with the rain and threatening skies as the storm front passed us by leaving a relatively cool game time temperature of 82 F on the field with lower humidity.
For the inaugural event we opted for a 3 inning contest and as you can see by the hand painted scoreboard (thank you Susan, my wife!), the home team rallied for a tying run in the bottom of the 3rd. Rick G. breathed a sigh of relief as he did not want to be saddled with the first ever loss at Honey Creek Field. In the bottom of the 4th we strung together 3 hits and pulled it off on a walk off base hit.
WP - Sabrina
LP - Oscar (the 70 something Lefty Venezuelan deeply impressed us all with his form and endurance....just like he does on the racquetball court. He's the 'Miggy' of Honey Creek Field!
MVP - Sabrina...this young lady from the Indianapolis area impressed us all as she pitched, hit, and ran the bases with poise and a natural feel for the game. The scouts have tagged her a four tool prospect.
Honey Creek Fields first and foremost art sculpture that was made in Mexico and purchased in Grand Haven, MI. Made of welded sheet metal consider it a throw back to the baseball games of long ago.... if you "Hit it Here" you will win a loaf of bake house bread.
Ed, let's it fly. This M.D. from U of M is a dominating force whether it be on the racquetball court or the diamond. Hum, baby, Hum!
Love the way Tim ends up after the swing. A devastating back hand on the r-ball court and a 'do damage' swing with the wiffle bat.
Craig and Alicia's boy, Max, had one thing to say, "Put me in coach, I'm ready to play...center field."

So, the Honey Creek Field opening event of June 22, 2013 reaches a conclusion with what can only be described as 'the perfect day' for me. I've been thinking about this event for over a month and was rewarded with the fun and excitement that comes with sharing something with your best friends, and my wife Susan. What would I change about this opening day event? Nothing! Well, maybe that a few who wanted to be here could not but I'll be adding them to the schedule!
Special thanks to Claire for her work in the field, Bill for cutting the Honey Field Creek grass, and Jim (my builder) for donating the dirt for the pitchers mound. And, of course, to my sign painter and wife, Susan!
That's it from Honey Creek Field.
Oh, yeah, the star of the show and the MVP, Sabrina!
One last thing....Future Star Alert...
Max stays late for some BP.
This looks fantastic, Steve!
